Tourism Kenora Pleased With Turnout For Playdowns

Tourism Kenora says the Northern Curling Championships this past week helped fill an important gap for the community.

Morgan Seller is the city’s Special Events Coordinator and says events in the shoulder seasons help businesses that rely on tourism.

“Our off-season and shoulder season events are really important to the community,” says Seller.

“Of course, we are always booked in the summertime, so things that happen in the wintertime or during the spring are always welcome.”

Seller says they couldn’t put on the Northern Curling Championships without the help of their volunteers, who put in hundreds of hours both before and during the event.

She hopes to hold more curling events of this sort in the years ahead.

“It really depends on the volunteers.  We really had a number of people come out and the community members who spent a lot of time doing this.”

Kenora was awarded the Northern Playdowns this year because last year’s had to be cancelled due to COVID regulations.
