Local students are gaining more information about the indian resdidential
The history of the church run schools is now part of the local curriculum.
Dolores Kelly is employed by Grand Council Treaty 3 in their Residential School
Program and says she's glad to see the interest.
Kelly says there seems to be a greater awareness of the residential school system, and
they are even seeing tourists dropping by to visit the sites of the old schools.
"What they said was, 'we're not here not just to look at the site'. They want to help. They want to act on solutions for all the people across Canada."
Students from Cindy Melenchenko's class at Thomas Aquinas walked over to the Cecilia Jeffray Residential School Memorial site on Thursday as part of their studies on the residential school system.
