It was a large turnout for the grand opening of the Ne-Chee Friendship Centre.

The Centre which used to be on Railway Street now resides downtown on 2nd Street.

Patti Fairfield Executive Director says the new location means a lot to them.

"The Friendship Centre staff and myself did the work we had to do in here and come in and paint and do all the things we did. It's our blood, sweat and tears that went into this. It gives us that ownership and pride. It's not like we got someone else to come in and do the work for us, we did the work ourselves so that means an awful lot."

Fairfield adds moving downtown was the best thing that could have happened.

"We felt like when we were in our previous location that we were on the outskirts and we weren't really part of everything, but here we feel like we are. The building works for us, we have almost all of our programs in here now. It's nice to be under one roof."

When the centre opened in the 1970's it was originally downtown before moving to the Railway Street location.

Fairfield notes that moving back downtown was like coming full circle, and felt like coming home.

The centre relocated downtown and opened the new location towards the end of March.
